Lonely Beach, Koh Chang
Lonely Beach is further south on the west coast, popular with younger travellers and backpackers, with bars and low-cost rooms close to the sand. From Bangkok the fare for a hotel here is 3,899 THB for the whole car, and you keep the same car on the ferry.

A beach for a livelier stay
The beach and the small streets behind it are known for evening music, hostels and beach bars, and it draws a younger crowd than Kai Bae or Klong Prao. If you want to sleep early, ask the hotel which rooms face the quiet side.
The neighbouring beaches are Kai Bae and Bailan. A short ride moves you from the nightlife to a calmer bay.
The road after the ferry
Lonely Beach is far along the island road, so the part after the ferry is longer than for White Sands. Plan to reach the ferry in the afternoon at the latest. Boats and ferries run through the day and stop in the early evening, and a late pick-up in Bangkok pushes the whole day into the dark.
A taxi from Pattaya reaches Laem Ngop in 3 h 05 min and the one from Bangkok in 4 h 20 min, before the crossing.

A Standard Sedan costs 3,899 THB from Bangkok, 3,699 THB from Suvarnabhumi, 3,999 THB from Don Mueang and 3,299 THB from Pattaya. Backpackers travelling together often split the Toyota Innova at 4,099 THB or the Hyundai H1 at 6,099 THB. The ferry is not included in the price: plus ferry tickets, about 80 THB per person.
You pay the driver in cash, or by Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, transfer by QR code or bank transfer to a Thai account if you prefer. Cancellation is free. From 24 December to 5 January 400 THB is added per car.
