How to get from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to Koh Chang
From Suvarnabhumi Airport to Koh Chang you can take a private taxi, a bus or minivan to Trat with a songthaew, or drive a rental car. The taxi costs 3,699 THB per car for the 321 km and takes about 4 h 50 min. Buses and minivans cost less per person but need changes.
Private taxi
The driver waits at Exit 3 with your name on a sign, takes the bags, drives onto the ferry with you and leaves you at your resort. You pay one price for the car, and tolls and fuel are in it. The wait for a delayed flight is included.
The Toyota Innova at 3,899 THB takes four with their luggage, and the Hyundai H1 at 5,899 THB takes six.
Bus or minivan to Trat
Buses and minivans to Trat run from the airport and from the Eastern bus terminal in the city. They stop in Trat town, so the last 20 km to the ferry pier are by songthaew, and then another songthaew takes you along the island road. The chain works for one traveller with a small bag.
Check the current timetable and where the stop is, because departures and fares change.
Rental car
A rental car can be collected at the airport. The drive is long, the road after Chanthaburi is two lanes in places, and the car must go back, which means the same drive again or a one-way fee. The ferry takes cars, and you pay for the crossing at the pier.
A taxi is easier after a long flight.
Which to choose
One person with a small bag can go by bus. A family, a couple with suitcases or a group takes the taxi, because the fare is shared and the trip is door to door. A traveller who lands in the afternoon and wants the last ferry should take the taxi, since a bus leaves on its own timetable.
Details and prices are on the price page. You pay the driver in cash, or by Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, transfer by QR code or bank transfer to a Thai account if you prefer.
After the road
The crossing takes about 30 minutes. The ferry is not included in the price: plus ferry tickets, about 80 THB per person. The service page Taxi from Suvarnabhumi to Koh Chang covers the trip step by step.
