The island road

Resorts on the west coast of Koh Chang are served by one main road that runs north to the ferry landing at Ao Sapparot. A pick-up at Bang Bao reaches the landing later than one at White Sands, so the time on the island depends on the beach.

The road is narrow in places and winding on the hills, and the driver takes it at a pace that suits the bags and the passengers.

The crossing

The ferry to Ao Thammachat takes about 30 minutes. The ferry is not included in the price: plus ferry tickets, about 80 THB per person. Boats run through the day and stop in the early evening, so the last pick-up of the day should leave well before then.

On busy days, such as a Sunday afternoon, the wait for a place on the ferry grows. A morning start avoids the queue.

Back to the capital

From the pier the car goes through Trat province, Chanthaburi, Rayong and Chon Buri to the eastern motorway. Laem Ngop to Bangkok is 320 km and 4 h 20 min. There are fuel stations with shops and restaurants along the road.

Sunday afternoon and evening are the heaviest hours into the city. A departure before 11:00 reaches Bangkok before the rush.
