Leaving Pattaya

From the middle of Pattaya the car reaches the main road within a few minutes. There is no city to cross, so the Bangkok traffic is not part of this trip. A pick-up at 07:00 is on the open road before 07:30.

Jomtien and Na Jomtien are on the way and add nothing.

Rayong and Chanthaburi

South of Pattaya the road passes Rayong, then runs east on Highway 3 through fruit country: from April the stalls along the road sell durian, mangosteen and rambutan. Chanthaburi is the last large town before the coast. The driver pays the tolls.

Fuel stations with shops and restaurants are spaced along the way, and a stop for coffee costs nothing.

The ferry and the island road

At Laem Ngop the car drives onto the ferry, and the crossing takes about 30 minutes. The ferry is not included in the price: plus ferry tickets, about 80 THB per person. The wait at the pier and the road on the island depend on how far south your hotel is.

White Sands is the closest beach to the ferry landing, and Bang Bao is near the end of the road.

When to leave
